Description

After a disappointing 2007 College Football season the UCLA Bruins relieved head coach Karl Dorrell of his duties and brought in former UCLA quarterback Rick Neuheisel as his replacement. Neuheisel has coaching experience having been the top man at Colorado and winning the 2001 Rose Bowl with the Washington Huskies. The Bruins were able to add a much-heralded offensive coordinator to Westwood as Norm Chow was added to the staff. Chow was the architect of USC’s potent offense and developed Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. It was a tough spring for the Bruins as their two senior quarterbacks were injured. Patrick Cowan was named starting quarterback during the spring and then was lost for the season with a torn ligament on his left knee on the last day of spring practice. Cowan was carted off the field and his replacement Ben Olsen took over as starter. In a horrific twist of fate Olsen was injured on the next play as his foot was stepped on as he pulled away from center and broke his right foot. Olsen will undergo surgery to insert screws on the bone and hopes to return in 2 months in time for summer practice.
